Alpha Loop Magnetic Loop Antenna
The Alpha Loop lets me get on HF from my apartment. It seems almost magical to me that a magnetic loop sitting on a tripod by my window acts like something usually much larger. The remote control lets me tune it from my shack. By the way, they have first class customer service.
In July of 2021, Alpha Antenna released an element which adds support for 6 meters, 2 meters, and 70 centimeters. This means that one antenna, depending on its configuration, can cover frequencies from 3.5 MHz to 450 MHz. The element turns it into a shielded Faraday electrical loop, which has less noise than a traditional loop. I have has lots of fun checking in to some local VHF nets!
In July of 2022, I switched to using a stealth end-fed. In a way it made me respect the magnetic loop even more. It seems unfair to comapre an indoor antenna with an outdoor one. The loop does a really good job given its environment.
