Kenwood TM-V71 VHF/UHF Base Station

I had owned my HT for a while when a ham suggested getting a base station. He said things like:

“Then you won’t have to wory about batteries.”

“Yeah it says it puts out 5 Watts, but you can’t trust that.”

and so on. That planted the seed. I bought the Kenwood Tm-V71 for myself as a Christmas present. To my dismay, it did not arrive with the voice guidance module installed. To my delight, I installed it myself!

I do like having a permanent base station. It puts out more than enough power. I dare not run it on high power, or 50 Watts. It provides everything I need and good accessibility when combined with the manual. I hook it up to my KB9VBR J-Pole.
